ELTS Speaking Part 1 is the first section of the IELTS Speaking test. It is a face-to-face conversation between the candidate and the examiner and serves as an introduction and warm-up to the speaking test. Here’s what you need to know about IELTS Speaking Part 1.

Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking test lasts around 4-5 minutes. It is a one-on-one conversation between the candidate and the examiner. The examiner will introduce themselves and ask you to introduce yourself. You will be asked questions about your background, such as your name, where you’re from, your job or studies, and your interests.

Part 1 covers a range of general topics that are easy to talk about. Common topics include family, hobbies, work or studies, hometown, favorite books/movies, sports, food, and travel.
In Part 1, you are expected to give short and direct answers to the examiner’s questions. However, try to expand your answers by providing some additional information or examples to showcase your language skills.The examiner will assess your ability to speak fluently and coherently. Aim to speak naturally, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar. Avoid giving very short or one-word answers.

To prepare for Part 1, practice answering questions related to common topics. Familiarize yourself with the type of questions that may be asked and develop your ability to speak confidently and spontaneously. Part 1 is relatively short, so manage your time wisely. Give concise answers without rushing, and make sure to cover all aspects of the question. Use a range of vocabulary and grammatical structures to express yourself effectively. Show your ability to use different tenses, adjectives, adverbs, and connectors appropriately.Pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation. Speak clearly and try to vary your intonation to sound natural and engaging .Engage in a conversation with the examiner by asking for clarification or expressing your opinions. Be polite and attentive throughout the test.
